Story
Lieutenant William Francis Weston and his wife Elizabeth and their infant son John arrived in Sydney, Australia on HMS Larkin, a free settler in 1817. In 1818 Governor Macquarie gave him a grant of 500 acres at Dapto which he called “West Horsley” after his father’s estate in England.
They had a family of five children, John, Augusta, William, Mary and Elizabeth. He died aged 33 years in 1827.
Augusta married Richard Brooks trader and farmer who had land at Campbelltown. He came to the Monaro with a herd of stock and took up land at Berridale and Jindabyne. Called “Gegedzerick”. John Weston also came to the Monaro in the 1840’s worked at “Gegedzerick” then owned land at Jindabyne.
