Story

William Albertson, my Grandfather was a brickmaker and wheelwright. He left Denmark to seek a better life.

I don’t know what ship he arrived on, but he settled first at Hinto NSW. 1857 saw him at Bowling Alley Point panning for gold.

He married his chidhood sweetheart Maria Sophia Thompson and bought land at Dungowan in 1863.

He engineered his own plough and was the first person in the district to use a horse intead of bullocks for this work. He also made his own threshing machine. He made wine and cheese and sold vegetables aroung the district.

William and Maria had eleven children, Hans, William, Rasmus, Ludwig, Albert, Frederick, Erasmus, Anna, Maria, Dorothea and Bertha.

William died 15/7/1911 aged 82. Maria died 29/2/1912.

Thank you.
