Story

I moved to Australia as a child with my family. I was 6 when we arrived in Australia. It was a move my parents had considered for many years, and the relocation took place some 6 months after my fathers older sister had also moved to Australia.

Being only a small child, I don’t remember a lot about the journey to Australia, except that we flew on a British Airways plane, and the seats were very uncomfortable to sleep in.

I remember our first Christmas in Australia, which was spent at the beach in Port Stephens, NSW. We had never had such a hot Christmas before. My father had fallen asleep after lunch, with his right hand on his chest, and when he awoke, he was as red as a beetroot, with a perfect white hand print on his stomach.

I have since married, had 2 children of my own, and became an Australian citizen in 2005, after my father passed away, and later became a JP(Qual) in Qld. My brother, Andrew became a citizen only months after his 18th birthday, and after my father’s passing, we discovered he too is an Australian, so it goes to show ” Australia grows on you”.
