Story

Accommodation/housing was difficult to find in our home town of Kapfenberg, Austria & the opportunity of living in Australia for a 5 year period seemed a wonderful adventure.

Having struggled with emotional farewells to family/friends we boarded Italian passenger liner, Flaminia, in Genoa and embarked on a 5 week sea voyage via Suez Canel & Aden. The ship initially docked in Fremantle, WA, then continued on its way to Melbourne. We were taken to Bonegilla Migrant Hostel where we stayed for approx 3 weeks. Rudolf found employment in Melbourne in his trade as (Fitter)/Turner, so the family made a home in Newport, Vic. In December 1957 we relocated to St Albans.

Having landed in Melbourne on 11/11/1956 we were most impressed by the fireworks, thinking that this colourful exhibition was in celebration of our arrival.
