Story

Reason for leaving homeland – UK population explosion – having served with Australian forces in Malaya & Korea I loved their attitude to life- their directness and their anti-class attitude – also a country that spelt sun and adventure for a young family

As ten pound Poms we travelled by ship on the ‘Britanis’ – a wonderful journey – but had its drawbacks such as sea-sickness suffered by wife and daughter.

Impressions on Arrival – The most beautiful morning as we sailed through Sydney Heads – then it rained for nearly 3 weeks but did not matter – it was WARM in the rain.

Our impression of the immigration camp was not good, but we found accomodation within 2 days. In the first twelve months we lost all our money to a ‘friendly Pom’ who defrauded us in a gift shop deal.
