Story

Reason for leaving homeland – Political situation in Fiji was not good. We had 2 coups in 1987 and the Indians in Fiji were looked upon as second class citizens. To get a better live in Australia.

We travelled by plane from my homeland (Vanua Levu) to the International Airport in Nadi (Viti Levu) with my wife and 2 children (1 boy – 10 years old and 1 girl – 4 years old). It took us four hours to travel from Fiji to Brisbane.

We were greeted by our relatives. Australia is a very beautiful country and the people of Australia are very friendly. There is freedom of speech, education, religion etc. This we did not have in Fiji. We gained our citizenship in 1997 and we call Australia our home. At present I am teaching as a High School Teacher at Emerald State High School and my wife is supervisor at Queensland Medical Laboratory in Emerald. My son is a second year tradesperson with Engine Reconditioners in Emerald and my daughter is a second year Bachelor of Nursing student at Central Queensland University.
