Story

Pietro Driussi was a member of the Italian army during World War II and was captured by British forces in Massawa, Eritrea on the 8th of April 1941.

He was transported to Australia, via India, eventually arriving into Melbourne on the 28th of February 1944. He was transferred to Murwillimbah in May 1944 and spent almost 12 months on the property of Herbert and Dolleina Oliver (at Tabulum) before returning to Sydney and then home to Italy.

He returned to Australia and married Dolleina Oliver in 1949. He applied for and received Australian citizenship in 1955.

He died in 1980 and is buried near Lismore, NSW.
