Story
My Father Patrick Obeid /Abade was the 2nd youngest of 8 children to Boutros and Noura Obeid. My father came to Australia in 1947 at the age of 17 with his cousins George Maroon and Henry Malcom all the same age on the vessel Comninos. They arrived in Melbourne 1947 after 38 days at sea, at the request of their uncle Joe Mansor who had settled in Australia many years before and owned the clothing company Celco shirts in Carlton.
After work at Celco for approx 5 years, my father then moved to a mixed business in Smith Street, Collingwood and then in 1956 he travelled back to Lebanon and married my mother Eva.
After his arrival back to Australia in 1956 he began work at Holden and stayed there for 18 years and then in 1974 he opened a fruit shop in Chatsworth Quadrant, Lower Templestowe and operated that business until his retirement in 1990 .
My father loved his homeland Lebanon with all his heart but moved to Australia for a better life for himself and his family, he loved his adopted country as soon as he set eyes on it .
Patrick and Eva Abade had 3 children Evelyn, George, and Anthony.
Patrick Abade passed away on the 16th August 2003 in Melbourne and is survived by his wife Eva Abade, son George and wife Laura and kids Patrick, Cassandra and Chloe, his Daughter Evelyn and her husband Norm Moses and their kids Rachael, Kellie, Adam, and Mathew, and Anthony and his wife Julie and their kids Anthony, Jacob and Evana Abade.
