Story

My mother and father left El Salvador to excape the civil war – during the eighties some of my relatives on my fathers side had been killed. During the eighties my parents had me and two other siblings. My parents wanted us to have a life were we where not in danger and we could life in a safe environment.

We travelled from El Salvador to Los Angelas, (I had just turned eight) – my parents did not know where we were going and to make things worse we did not speak a word of English. From Los Angelas we travelled to Sydney then to Narrandera NSW, where a local priest met us at the airport with a group of Australians. The priest talked Spanish, as he had travelled around Peru. My parents were so relieved to hear their language. The Priest and the group that were with him had organised a house for us to live in, they had furnished it and provided us children with some luxuries we had never had, Toys. The following year my brother was born, as my mother was pregnant when we arrived in Australia. The group members (and we still keep in contact) continued to help us until we settled into our new lifestyle.

Australia was paradise and to me and my family and it continues to be paradise. We are forever grateful for the opportunities that Austarlia has provided for me and my family.
