Story
My reason for leaving Germany is quite a romantic one. In March 1987 I decided it was time to visit Australia and my aunty’s sister offered that I could stay with them and make it the home base which was Sydney. In my last week in Australia my aunt’s sister decided to show me the countryside near Stroud, NSW and visit my now parents-in-law as they were friends. This is were I met my future husband, their son, and we fell in love at first sight. Unfortunately I had to leave Australia after that week. I received a letter shortly after my return to Germany from my now husband with a marriage proposal. Level headed as I am, I suggested that he visit me in Germany which he did in Sept ’87 and he stayed for 3 months. He proposed again and presented me with a engagement ring. Again I said I really would like to think about it and we left it with that and he left for Australia. Just before Christmas he rang and proposed again, this time it got the better of me as I missed him terribly and I said yes. The following year in March my mother and I travelled back to Australia to organize the wedding as it was easier for my husband’s family. So we met my husband and I married him within a year – fast I know.
Leaving Germany and my whole family behind was quite daunting and heartbreaking. But luckily my mother, both my sisters and their family decided to come with me and attend the wedding, so the goodbyes were not complete until everyone left again for Germany.
Having already been to Australia it seem unreal to be actually now living here and due to having to put the last touches on the wedding the rush took a lot of thinking away.
To conclude I find Australia a beautiful place to live but it would even be better if my sisters and their family would live here as well as we were and are still are very close.
