Story

As a farming family and due to the political situation we left Zimbabwe for Australia for a better future for our family.

Sight unseen we chose Australia but due to immigration restrictions Martin arrived six weeks before the rest of the family to begin a farming career in Australia whilst the rest of the family waited in New Zealand until immigration status was allowed.

Martin’s first impression of Australia was “marvellous”. He was harvesting when the rest of the family arrived in their new country. Fiona and the children drove from Brisbane to Mungindi to meet him on the property, seeing their first kangaroo, a dead one on the side of the road. The family’s reunion was an unforgetable memory after having not seeing each other for six weeks and signified the start of another generation in a new country. The whole family agree that Australia is “the lucky country” and very grateful for the opportunity to be migrants to this country.
