Story

After WW11 Germany was a very unstable country. On his mother’s advice Louis left Gemany to migrate to Australia and a better future. He completed an apprenticeship with the German Railways then entered into a 2 year contract to be completed at Wirrega Railway Camp in South Australia. The journey by sea took 7 weeks on the Anna Salen which docked at Port Adelaide.

On board he learnt Esperanto and wood carving. When the ship docked he could not believe the blue sky and how hot it was as he arrived on 28th March 1952.

The Wirrega Railway camp was scrub only. Within 2 years he had paid off his fare out to Australia.

On 23rd December 1953 he married Heather Glen King and lived on a small farm and raised a family of 4 children. The eldest boy Richard followed by 3 girls Sandra, Caroline and Janet.

The family moved into Bordertown after 10 years and Louis died on the 17th February 1999. His wife Heather relocated to Kingston by the sea in South Australia.
