Story
My Great Grandfather was Ljubisav Jovanovic husband to Katarina (who I was named after) and father to Dobrina, Ljubinka and Borisav. To us he was know as Deda Proda. During WWII my great grandfather was a soldier in the Kings Army of Srba, Hrvata and Slovenaca (SHS). The German soldiers occupied Yugoslavia and he was captured and held as a prisoner of war. He was transfered to Germany where he was to stay for 3 years.
After the war was over he was to go back to Yugoslavia. On the journey home they were informed that they would be killed because they were part of the Kings Army and the Partisans (soldiers of Yugosalvia) were now in control. My knowledge of what happened here is minimal as my great grandfather died in 2004. So he and a friend escaped and from here, one chose to go to America and one to Australia. My great grandfather being a smart man chose Australia and travelled by ship from Italy and it landed on the shores of Fremantle, Western Australia. He resided in Northam, W.A. for the rest of his life.
Because of my great grandfather his son Borisav and his wife Radmila Jovanovic were able to come to Australia in 1964 and 1965 respectively. It also gave my father Predrag Nikolic grandson of Ljubisav and nephew of Borisav the opportunity to come to this country and seek a better life for himself and his family to come. My father came to Australia in 1970 and my mother Nadezda followed in 1979. My brother Vladimir and I are the first born generation in Australia.
