Story
My husband and I were Scots living in London, newly married in 1989, when we decided to see a bit of the world and go and work overseas. My husband Michael secured a job in Melbourne with a large accounting firm, and we decided to move there for 2 years.
We arrived in Australia on Australia Day, 1990. We could not get over the bright blue skies, the equally bright blue ocean, and the more than pleasant temperatures that greeted us.
We were looking for a very different lifestyle than where we’d come from, and we certainly got that in Melbourne. We met wonderful, friendly people, we immersed ourselves in the culture that was on offer here, and we found ourselves becoming Aussie rules fanatics as the months went by!
Our initial stay of 2 years has now become almost 20 years, and we haven’t looked back. We love living here and can’t imagine living anywhere else now. We now have 3 children, all of whom consider themselves “true Aussies”, and we are so grateful that we made the decision all those years ago to make the move.
