Story

During my teenage years I dreamed about coming to Tasmania to study zoology. I planned for many years, and finally on Valentines Day 2006 boarded the 747 and arrived in Tasmania a day later. When I moved into my share house at the University of Tasmania I met my future husband Michael Cook. We fell in love and nine months later we were married and I made the commitment to immigrate. I will get my permanent residency on November 1st 2009.

The journey was long. I left my state of Michigan and flew to Chicago. I waited several hours and then flew for three hours to Los Angeles (boy, my arms were tired!). Then the 12 hour wait at the airport. I read newspapers, perused the gift shops, tried to find something to do on my laptop and mostly stared at the tarmac. Finally the time came to leave the US behind and look toward Australia. It was a 14 hour flight and landed in Sydney. It was so surreal when I first looked down at Australia and thought “I did it, I’m here, no more dreaming, this is it”. I then went up to Cairns for a 3 day introduction which included some snorkeling on the GBR. Finally down to Hobart to meet my destany.
