Story

Reason for leaving homeland – To have a better life.

My Great-Great-Grandfather Juwanna left Amoy, China as a 18 year old in 1848 on the Barque called the ” NIMROD ” arriving in New South Wales, Australia.

Juwanna took whatever job he could find to make as much money as he could.

He married Mary Mitchell in 1856. They had a son in 1857.

Juwanna came to Queensland about 1859 and remarried in 1863 to Jane Pimm and had a family of 6. He changed his name to John Warner. John Warner was an interperter for the Chinese in many court cases in Toowoomba, Queensland.

[Impressions on Arrival] He called Australia the lucky Country and was very impressed.
