Story

Hello!

My name is Heinz Meininger and I was born in Hamburg Altona, Germany in 1933.

In 1958n I decided to migrate to Australia as a single and and have a bit of an adventure and at the same time looking for a new future.

Because Germany and Europe in general was in the mess (because of the last war) there was not much of a future there for me, so I decide to come to the “land down under”. WHAT A GREAT MOVE.

First call of port was Fremantle in Western Australia on the 13th Sept 1958 precisely, and we disembarked at Port Melbourne. Then we were put on the train and sent to Bonegilla camp on the Victoria-NSW border. Everything was so different to us coming from Europe, but we settled in very quickly.

After that I lived for 10 years in Melbourne and worked in Chapel Street, Windsor as a butcher at the trhen well-known Hanse Butchery.

After that I moved to Brisbane, Queensland and I have lived here ever since. I married my lovely wife Beatrix in 1966 and raised two beautiful girls, sonya and Heidi in Brissy.

So, that’s my story!

Heinz Meininger
