Story

Reason for leaving homeland – Widow with child no prospects for work .

About the Journey – Sharing cabin with 2 other mothers with 2 and 3 children respectively. Younger child of larger family had obsession with my dolls and slippers would play with them but not ask permission. My mum was very sick with flu for nearly two weeks of the trip.

Impressions on Arrival – First saw tin roofs of Fremantle docks then remember arriving in Melbourne and not understanding much what was said to us by immigration officers. But the sight of my aunt and uncle at the docks was absolutely fantastic. We travelled from Melbourne to Sydney in a 1956 Morris Minor with a soft top. The countryside was dry and hot.
