Story

Eugenio Olivero left Italy in 1924 aged 22yrs, because the dreaded Phylloxera disease had destroyed the vines on the family farm in Province Asti, in Northern Italy. Eugenio left Genoa in July 1924 on the “Caprera” and arrived in Melbourne in September then decided to go to Queensland to cut cane. In 1925 he came to Griffith and worked hard in the fruit season, only to return to Queensland to cut cane in the season……

After some years he met and married Marcella Zandona and continued the hard work until together Eugenio and Marcella purchased a farm at Tharbogang just outside of Griffith. Eugenio and Marcella had three children…Corrado, Ron and Diana…… and they and their children gave much joy to Eugenio and Marcella.

Eugenio played lawn bowls until he was 90 yrs old and died 2 weeks before his 93rd birthday……Marcella died 8 yrs before Eugenio and was 77.

Simon, Carol-Anne and Timothy, Maria and Stephen, John and Jane all remember their Nonna and Nonno with much love and Nonna’s family feasts are still the talked about at family gatherings.
