Mrs R A Perkins (nee Orr) Obituary
The death occurred with painful suddenness on Monday morning at Ballarat of and old and very highly respected pioneer resident of this district in the person or Mrs. Perkins, wife of Mr R A Perkins. Deceased who was in fair health rose as usual on Monday morning and whilst dressing suddenly collapsed and passed away in a few minutes as the result of a heart failure.
She was 72 years of age and was born in Monmouthshire, Wales in 1845 and at the age of eight years came to Australia with her parents who settled at Williamstown. She married Mr Perkins in 1863 and lived at Mt Gambier for about 7 years, where her husband had charge of the Government Experimental Farm, when they migrated to Lorquon and resided there until 1901 when Mr Perkins took up a mallee block at Albacutya. About seven years ago her husband relinquished active farming pursuits and moved in to the town where they resided almost continuously until about eight months ago when owing to failing health they went to Adelaide and then to Ballarat. Deceased leaves besides her husband, three daughters, Mesdames Bell, of Millicent, SA, W. Wallis of Marcus near Queenscliff and FC Perkins of Hindmarsh SA and one son Frederick Richard (Fred) Perkins for whom heartfelt sympathy of the community has been expressed.
