Story

My name is Eh Tar. I was born in Thailand, but my parents came from Burma. My parents left Burma because the Burmese soldiers came and attacked their village. So they came to the Thailand Burma border to a small village. I have one brother and four sisters. When we lived there we also feared the Burmese soldiers.

So I was born in this village. This village is beautiful because it\’s near a river and has a lot of trees. My father found some fish for his family. But the Burmese soldiers came and attacked us again so my family had to come and stay in Mae La Refugee camp. I lived in Mae La Refugee camp for 14 years. When we lived in refugee camp we went to school with my siblings.

My father said I want our children to get an education, because when we lived in Mae La we didn\’t have an opportunity to go outside the camp. We had to stay in the camp. I came to Australia on 10 March, 2009. Australia is a good country to my family. I am happy to stay here because I don\’t have to be afraid of the Burmese soldiers. When I first arrived here I felt I was free. I go to school happily.
