Story
My name is Eh keh. I was born in Thailand in 10th/Nov/91. I was a refugee on the Thai/Burma border in a camp called Mae La Camp. I was in this Camp for 14 years, for a long time. I have six siblings and I\’m the fifth person in my family. Before I arrived in this Camp I had a bad experience, because the Burmese soldiers came and attacked our people and killed our people, so we were not able to live there and we moved in another place near the Thailand border.
The soldiers always looked for Karen people to destroy and kill so this place is not safe for us. In 1995 my family started to move from this camp. When we first arrived in this camp we had no house to live in, no food to eat and no money to buy food, but we were not starving, because some Karen people who also had bad experiences like us came and gave us some food like rice, salt and fish paste to eat for one day.
The next morning the community called U.N.H.C.R, who support refugee people, came and gave some food for us like rice, fish paste, oil, salt, chilli, and yellow bean. They also gave us things like pots, cloths, stove and they also found the place for us to live. In this camp we had to be aware of the Burmese soldiers, because in summer time the Burmese soldiers sometimes came and burnt the homes. I was sad living in this camp. There are many children in this camp but no school for them and what will happen with them in the future, so another organization called Z.O.A built a school for the children to study to improve in their future.
I started to study when I was two and half years old in nursery school. When I finished nursery school I went to primary school and then to high school. On 10th March 2009 I started to come to Australia. When I first arrived in Australia I felt delighted, because I felt like my life was saved and I don\’t have to be afraid of the Burmese soldiers.
