Story

My name is Eh Kaw So and I was born in Burma state. I am a Karen person. I\’m the third youngest of the brothers in my family; I have three brothers and one sister. I don\’t have a father because my father died a long time ago. The Burmese soldiers killed him like they killed many of our people in Burma and they destroyed the villages and houses. In 1999 I went to Mae la refugee camp with my family. I saw my cousins and I made new friends in the camp. I did have a little bit of education in the refugee camp.

I stayed in Mae la camp for about six years with my family and cousins. A lot of people lived in refugee Mae la camp. Some people who lived in the camp had the opportunity go to another country and some people chose go to America. Many people wanted to go to Australia but it is easier for people to go to the U.S.A.

I came to Australia on 10/3/09 with my mother, little brother, and sister. There are two brothers left in Mae la camp. I liked Australia at first because it is a democracy where all people have the same opportunity for everything. When I arrived in Australia I lived first in Canberra. I plan in my future to do something good for my people.
