Story

Edward Norrie, along with his siblings Francis, Elizabeth and Mary arrived in Australian from Scotland aboard the steam ship Themistocles with his father, Stephen and mother Jane (nee Binnie Tulloch died 1913) who had been married on Dec 23rd 1903. The ticket for the family cost fifty-eight pounds ten shillings. His youngest sister Evelyn was born on Dec 12th 1915.

They first settled in Campsie NSW. Stephen, a stonemason cut stone in a quarry at Moruya NSW. This stone, floated to Sydney on barges, was used in the construction of the Harbour Bridge pylons. Edward following in his father’s footsteps working as one of the stonemasons on the construction of the Sydney Maritime Services building situated on the left of Circular Quay. This building now houses the Museum of Contemporary Art. During World War II he assisted in the removal of the clock from Sydney GPO because it was considered a possible landmark target during the war. Edward also spent time in Canberra working on the Australian War Memorial.

Edward married Gladys Annie Matthews (born 6/2/1911) on 1/10/1932 (the year the Harbour Bridge opened). They had three children who were all born at home, Donald Harold (17/8/33), Beryl Jean 16/10/34) and Albert Charles (17/2/36). They lived in Campsie NSW where the children attended Croydon Park Public School. In 1944/45 they moved to a poultry farm in Revesby, with Donald enrolling at Bankstown Technical School and Beryl and Bert attending Revesby Public School. Gladys ran the poultry farm whilst Edward worked at a woollen mill in Alexandria.

Don married Win Jarret and had four children, Stephen, Mark, Nola and Collin.

Beryl married Robert Jesse and they adopted a daughter Beverly, then had David, Graeme, Lyndal, Trevor and Katrina.

Bert married Margaret Dixon and they had five children, Warren, Peter, Lorraine, Cindy and Colleen.
