Story
Edward David Armstrong came to Australia as a young babe in arms. His mother, Edith Alice Shoesmith(born 1892, Middlesex, UK), married a serving Australian soldier, David Cunningham Armstrong. They married 24 December, 1916 at St Luke’s Church of England in London. At the end of the First World War David Cunningham Armstrong was sent back to Australia with his Unit. Edith Alice Armstrong, and young son, Edward David Armstrong followed on a bride ship arriving in Melbourne in or around October 1919
The only story about the trip we have is centred around a small round gold locket that Edith Alice wore around her neck during the voyage. It had a photo of her husband in it. Young Edward David would play with it and would bite on it when he was teething. The eldest daughter of Edward David cherishes this locket: the faded photo is still inside and the small teethmarks are clearly visible.
