Story

Reason for leaving homeland – Left India to make better life in England but changed my mind to go to Australia for doctoral study at Monash University.

About the Journey – Left India for England by Air India in June, 1962. Left England for Australia by BOAC in September, 1963 and reached Melbourne on 23 October, 1963 after three weeks stop over in India to join Monash University, Melbourne

A representative of the Monash University was at the Essendon airport to receive me. He dropped me at Deakin Hall where the University arranged for my accommodation for four weeks at their expense. It was very pleasant experience to start my life in Australia. The white Australia policy did not worry me as I was treated with great respect by my fellow students and the staff of the University.

The white Australia policy was abolished by a referndum in 1967 and I became Australian citizen in 1968.
