Story

In 1986 I left Ashford Middlesex England where I had lived all my life to marry my husband Wayne who was born in Perth.

I booked a flight with British Airways which was good because I had worked for them for seven years but had to leave the company to emigrate to Australia, and although the journey seemed long I was both excited and apprehensive. When I arrived Wayne was waiting to meet me I ran into his arms it was so good to see him again!

Three days after arriving in Sydney which I loved, I flew with Wayne to Canberra where Wayne was going to work. When we arrived in Canberra it was January 6 and I had never known weather so hot. We were housed in a very nice University Unit and one evening in our bedroom on the wall I saw the biggest spider I had ever seen, it was as big as my hand, this is something Wayne had not told me about, then he said “That is okay it is just a Huntsman it will not hurt you.” That did not matter to me I just screamed and locked myself in the bathroom until Wayne had let it go, and that was my welcome to Australia!

I found Canberra itself to be very beautiful and often visited the Australian War Memorial, Art Gallery and Lake Burley Griffin, where Wayne and I were married, among other well known landmarks, and really enjoyed my time living there.

Today we both live in Perth.
