David Roche was born in Kilkenny Ireland on 09 June 1821.

On 09 May 1846 he married Margaret Nolan, who was born in Kilkenny, Ireland on 26 May 1826.

They were married at the Roman Catholic Church, Scarsborough, Yorkshire on 09 May 1846. (Family Bible).

David and Margaret arrived in Sydney in 1853 (Their third child, James, was born at sea) and made their way to the Monaro, where they settled at RockVale (or Rock Lodge). David later took up land at ‘Myalla\’ following the enactment of the Land Act of 1861.

In total there were nine children born to James and Margaret, four sons and five daughters.

Sometime between 1864 and 1870 the family, for unknown reasons, changed the spelling of their name from Roche to Roach.

One daughter pre-deceased David and Margaret.

David died at Myalla on 06.01.1907

Five of their grandsons fought in France during the First World War, only two returned.
