Story
Becoming redundant from the British Naval Dockyard in 1964 when I was about to get married made me make the big decision to migrate to Australia with my new wife to start a new life for ourselves and the family.
We arrived on a Qantas plane on the 8th July 1964, The trip was long and weary.
On arriving at Sydney Airport on an icy cold morning, having left in the heat of summer in the Mediterranean was a dreadful experience. When we landed the hostesses come down the aisle spraying all passengers with insecticide which was than followed up by having to dip our shoes in a tray of insecticide solution as we proceeded to alight from the plane. As we stepped out of the plane we were welcomed by a chill of winter air which shrivelled our skin and thought that we have arrived in Alaska. Surviving our arrival we were waiting to face the unknown.
