Story
Amelio Trento 24.07.34 – 14.09.08
Amelio was born in the small country town of Casacorba, Treviso, Italy. His family were farmers. He grew up a child of the war years. As a young man he worked in a convent in Venice. At the age of 22 he decided to come to Australia. His plan being to help support his widowed mother and family at home.
He set sail all alone on the ship Toscana. Upon arrival in Victoria he lived at the Bonegila Camp, later moving to the Wallgrove Camp in St. Marys, New South Wales. He worked various jobs before moving to Queensland to cut sugar cane, finally moving to New South Wales to work as a concretor.
There he met a young girl called Margaret whom he eventually married. Funnily enough both Margaret and her sister married Italians. His plan had been to return to Italy, but instead he bought a home, proposed and stayed in Australia. They were married at St Monica’s North Parramatta, NSW in 1962. They have three children, a boy and two girls and four grandchildren, living in the Hills district most of his married life.
Amelio died at the age of 74 years, a very loving family man missed by all his family and friends.
