Story
Alfredo Meloni migrated from Rome, Italy, to Australia in 1961. After a brief period in Lakes Entrance, Victoria, Alfredo moved to Hobart, Tasmania, where he settled. In 1962 Alfredo’s fiance, Marcella Gizzi, followed him from Italy to Australia, and they married on her arrival. No other members of their respective families followed. A daughter, Angela, was born in 1963, and a son, Fabio, in 1964. Alfredo established his own business as a tradesman, and Marcella became an Assistant Librarian at the State Library of Tasmania, before both retired in the late 1990s. Angela graduated in International Relations from World College West, San Fransisco, and worked for many years in film and television production both in the US and Australia. She married an American, Steve Young, who moved with her to Australia; they had two sons, Alessandro and Sean. Fabio graduated in Arts/Law from the University of Tasmania. After a few years in legal practice he entered the Foreign Service, undertaking several overseas postings. He married Prerana Mehta, of Indian origin, who migrated from East Africa to Australia with her family in the early 1970s. They had a son, Luca, and a daughter, Saba. In his retirement, Alfredo returned to his first love, painting artwork, regularly exhibiting around Tasmania and beyond. Marcella pottered in her beloved flower garden, and both Alfredo and Marcella doted on their grandchildren.
