Story

Reason for leaving homeland

Vincenzo wanted to earn his own money and buy land of his own.

About the Journey

Vincenzo came out by boat which took over a month. Conditions were not good, the boat being only a very small

one. On arrival in Australia he and a mate took the train from Sydney north. This took almost as long

as the boat trip. With not much money, they travelled lowest class possible and this meant sleeping

wherever they could rest their heads.

Impressions on Arrival

It was certainly not what they expected. Scrubland everywhere and indigenous people as well. Vincenzo worked for a canefarmer dynamiting tree stumps to plant cane.
