Story

Reason for leaving homeland

Paola married Vincenzo Bianchi, who had migrated to Australia in 1913.

About the Journey

The boat trip which took over a month. Paola didn’t take the trip very well being seasick the whole time.

She took the train to Innisfail then horse and cart to Mena Creek.

Impressions on Arrival

As there was no house as such, she lived at one end of the horse stables for nine months then finally moved to house on another property. Then pregnant with no knowledge of the language it was extremely hard. There were not many women either but the few she met were true friends

for many years . When I went to school I taught her the English I learnt and so life went on. Both parents loved Australia and called it home.
