Story

My parents were Displaced Persons after WW2 as they had both been taken by the Germans. Mum was taken to Germany to the labour camps when she was 16. Dad was arrested in 1940 and put into concentration camps – Auschwitchz, Dachau and Buchanwald. They met after the war and waited for a country to call home. Thy were finally accepted as immigrants by Australia.

They travelled on the Oxfordshire through the Suez Canel. They landed in Perth and then sailed on to Newcastle.

They both thought Australia was a wonderful young country with lots of potenial. They were expecting to see the unusual animals everywhere. They were never disappointed and were always grateful to the opportunities that Australia gave them. Before they died they said that Australia had given them a good life.
