Story

Reason for leaving homeland – Left 12 Station Road Metheriingham Lincolnshire England to marry an Australian Serviceman – RAAF Flying Officer John Daniel Trowbridge. Served three years on bomber command at Driffield Yorkeshire England. World War 2.

About the Journey – Arrived Melbourne on 22.10.46 (Monday) Ship SS Strathmore. Travelled to Lameroo South Australia – farming district by car. Married Lameroo Methodist Church 2.11.46. Husband farmer – lived for 20years on farm and raised 3 children (girls) – Ann Elizabeth Trowbridge 3.9.47 (Lameroo), Carolyn Joy Trowbridge 7.9.52 (Lameroo) , Beverley Jean 12.4.54 (Lincoln) , Farm Sheep and wheat. Trowbridge family had settled in Lameroo early 1900’s and had come from Bute.

We moved to Adelaide on 1963 to further family’s educaton – East Grange Adelaide. John Daniel Trowbrodge died 1998. Widow – Elizabeth Eileen living.

Impressions on Arrival – Shocked! Went straight to the Mallee bush – very isolated. People friendly.
