Story

Reason for leaving homeland – To make a better life for his wife and 3 sons, Juan, Luis & Conrado.

Arrived in Sydney and then went ot Innisfail to cut sugar cane and then earnt enough money to bring his family out from Spain. Then he bought a sugar cane farm in Mourilyan, which was in the family for about 50 years. Unfortunately the farm has since been sold. He also lived in Arncliffe and had a house in Firth Street, Arncliffe and worked on the tram line to Rockdale.

They were impressed with Australia and soon made friends with other Spanish people, but they where not very well welcomed by the English. They had to learn English very quickly as no one helped them, not like today, but they both worked hard to provide a comfortable home for their sons.

There descendants are well off these days and are grateful to Pedro and Dolores Marturia.
