ELIZABETH, immigrated to Australia in the hope of a better life for her family.

Elizabeth came to Australia with 5 of her children, under a Family Colonization Loan Society Scheme.
They arrived in Sydney on the “Bangalore” on 12th January 1855, after a sea journey of almost five months- her youngest child was only 2 years of age.
ELIZABETH’S husband, ALEXANDER BRYCE CORRIE, came from the farm next door to Robbie Burns the poet. ALEXANDER was a Master Mariner, he was lost at sea between Sydney and Calcutta in 1871.
ROBERT DAVID CORRIE, was a store keeper at Miana on the Gilbert Islands, he owned a trading ship, travelling to Lord Howe Island selling his wares – He was drowned at Lord Howe Island in 1871.
DAVID RICHARD CORRIE, was a prospector and travelled to many of the gold and gemsfields throughout NSW. Prospecting and selling goods. DAVID along with his brother ALEXANDER, owned land at Hill End NSW. It is recorded that they sold this land, which had a Blacksmiths shop on it, to Bernard Otto Holtermann (who was to become the finder of one of Australia’s largest gold nuggets known as the ‘Holtermann Nugget’.)
Elizabeths brother RICHARD DAWSON, was involved in shipping. He also was an ironmonger in Sydney.
ELIZABETH CORRIE (NEE DAWSON) died in 19th August 1894, and her headstone still stands at Rookwood Cemetery today.
