Story

Allison (nee Muir McArthur) Bannatyne and her husband John Burden Bannatyne, left Scotland because, according to my Mother Betty, adventure, family pressure, religious difference and to basically, start a new Family in Australia. Allison’s Father Robert McArthur, a Glasgow plumber and gas fitter had died of occupation related viral meningitis, when Allison was about thirteen. Her Mother Marion remarried in 1907.

Allison’s first marriage, to John Burden Bannatyne, in Scotland on 13 February 1920, would have provided her with a rather swift introduction to tight Scots familial relationships, religious difference and possible outright alienation from John’s family. It was John’s second marriage and, it appears, both his wife and his children from this marriage, were removed to Scotland.

Allison was also a Grand daughter of a criminal.
