Story

Reason for leaving homeland – Economic recession in Ireland. Kevin a qualified Electrician, was unemployed with little prospect for securing a fulltime position in his field. With a wife and 2 young sons, Donnacha aged 4 and Conaill aged 2 to care for and Ireland’s economy having no positive forecast, the decision to emigrate to Australia was made.

A large group of family members farewelled the young famly at Cork Airport as they set off on their adventure. Their flight took them from Cork to Heathrow and onto Brisbane via Muscat. Kevins wife had an older sister already settled in Brisbane with her husband and 4 children

Kevin and his wife Valerie made a pact to return to Ireland if any of them were unhappy after 2 years. They also adopted their new home with open arms. Kevin secured a good job and worked to build a new life for his young family. In 1988 a third son Sean was born, to complete the very happy Keniry family, who lived happily ever after in Brisbane. 4 more of Valeries sisters also emigrated from Ireland in 1987/88.
