Story
George Sutherland was born in Wick Caithness Scotland on 29/1/1829. His parents were John Sutherland and Louisa Thompson. George married Elizabeth Baikie on 2/12/1851 at Wick. George was a stonemason. He and Elizabeth and young son John, sailed from Liverpool on 1/3/1854 aboard the “Lord Stanley”, arriving at Geelong (Pt Henry) on 30/6/1854. They lived in Kilgour St Geelong for three years before moving to the Bellarine Peninsula, where they farmed at “Balmoral Farm” East Bellarine .They had ten more children, two of them dying in infancy. George died 2/7/1899 and Elizabeth on 25/5/1904. Both are buried in the Drysdale cemetary.

Donald born 1857 died 1906 – married Elizabeth Hardie. Louisa born 1859 died 1910 – married John Clegg Mayall. Elizabeth born 1860 married John Henry Cant. George born 1862, died 1941 – married Ruth Christian Trethowan. Catherine born 1864 – married J McA Ross. Alexander born 1866 died 1945. Unnamed boy born 1868 died 1868. James born 1871 died 1940 married Evelyn Wheadon .
