Story

Kenya was about to get self government, and after witnessing the atrocities that occured when the Belgian Congo gained self government, my parents decided that the whole family had to move somewhere safe. So they chose Australia. It was decided to send me over first to check out the farming opportunities. So I was sent over one year earlier than the rest of the family. I was only seventeen years old, sent out to a foreign land.

I flew up to Aden and caught a ship heading to Fremantle, the “MV Flaminia”.

After the beautiful lush country where I grew up Western Australia seemed like a desert! I got work on a wheat and sheep farm at Canna, about 200 kilometres East of Geraldton.

1 year later my parents also arrived in WA and settled in Cranbrook.
