Story

Nancy wanted some better opportunities than her village of Castle Douglas could offer, and she wanted a bit of an adventure.

Nancy met her future husband of 57 years Reg on the table of the New Australia ship. She also met her bridesmaid Anne. They went via the Suez canal and Nancy was very sea-sick for the beginning of the journey. Reg went to Melbourne and Nancy went to Sydney.

Later Nancy was in a bank and heard the teller call for Mr Bowring, who happened to be Reg’s younger brother Lionel, Reg quickly came up from Melbourne and married Nancy.

When they arrived in Sydney, they witnessed a fight in Oxford St and thought “this reinforces the reputation of silly Poms” She was impressed by the amount of sunlight.
