Story

I was unsure of future employment in the aircraft industry and saw an advertisement in the paper for engineers at QANTAS. I applied, had an interview and was accepted and then went through immigration to be granted entry to Australia.

We departed on a cold March 3rd 1965 by Qantas flight 531 via New York, San Francisco, Hawaii, Fiji and arrived in Sydney on March 5th.

It was hot !!! We were allocated accomodation at the Bunnerong migrant hostel in Matraville. Very basic, but a start to our new life. My family – wife Joan and daughter Jaqueline, then aged four, soon settled in and found we were close to Maroubra beach and the city; a great location and not far to the airport for work. We travelled around the Sydney and fell in love with it straight away.

It was the best decision we ever made to migrate to Australia. WE have had a fantastic lifestyle and now enjoy our retirement to the full.
