Story
Donato Tauriello was born in Italy in a small town called San Fele which is located in the Province of Potenza (about 2 hours drive away from Naples) He was raised by his parents who farmed a small plot of land in a near by town called Ruva Del Monde. At the age of 25 Donato went to live and work as an assistant Landscaper in Switzerland and remained there for 12 years. During that time he did return to Italy for short periods to find an Italian bride. He married Lucia Giorgio in February 1959 and brought her back to Switzerland with him.
They both worked hard to save their money and because they were unable to purchase land or property in Switzerland they decided to migrate to Australia but not before Lucia bore 3 children, Maria, Tony and Anna who were aged 6, 5 and 3 respectively when the decision was made to relocate to Australia. The family boarded the ‘Galilei\’ on the 17th October 1966 and landed on the shores of Melbourne on the 10th November 1966. The family then immediately moved to Wollongong in NSW where Donato initially worked as a labourer\’s assistant at the BHP Steel Works. In 1970 he trained to be a Crane Chaser and then attained a certificate of competency as a crane driver in 1972.
Donato has never regretted leaving his homeland. He has always been a bit of an adventurer. He and his family became Australian citizens in 1977. Donato is proud of his achievements and grateful for the opportunity to live his life in beautiful Australia.
