Story
Henry Threadingham, a ships carpenter, was signed on for the round trip England Australia. While
having a leisurely beer on shore leave he got chatting to some fellows who were on their way to the Victorian gold fields. After hearing tales of great wealth to be had he joined his new friends and went to seek his fortune.
He had no luck there and worked his way to Queensland where he joined the rush at Mt Perry. After two years of steady toil he sent for his wife and young family. They arrived at Maryborough on the Glamorganshire after a journey of some four months. They stayed in Mt Perry for a while where another son was born.
On hearing of land being available for selection in the Boyne Valley, he moved his family there in early 1875. They set up camp in the Calliope area on the banks of Raggote Creek. They were the first permanent white settlers in the area. Their cat was a source of great curiosity to the friendly Aboriginies.
The Threadingham selection was named Kent Farm after Henry’s birth place. Henry stayed with mining all his life, mining Copper on Kent Farm and operating a battery at several gold fields. His original hut stood for over 100 yrs.
