Story
John was born in Ballyhale, Kilkenny, Ireland and arrived on the Conrad in Moreton Bay on 20/11/1855, with parents Robert and Ellen nee Clear and 9 brothers and sisters. Eldest brother, Robert remained in Ireland and an older sister, Bridget migrated to USA.
The family farmed at Redbank Plains, QLD being one of the first families in the area. A street is named after them.
John married Bridget Richter nee Ward, a widow with 2 daughters, Ellen & Lucy, on 14/8/1894. They lived in Brassall and had 2 sons. John Patrick 21/10/1895. died 8/10/1917 and Robert (Sandy) 5/9/1897. Sandy married Florence Sarah Fullelove 16/6/1917, a daughter Myrtle Florence born 29/8/1917. She married Wesley Kevin John Cumming 15/5/1936. They had 3 children. Myrtle died 1/5/1996.
Sandy had a defacto relationship with Pauline Klupfel and 2 daughters were born. Lorna Patricia 27/11/1938 and Margaret Mary 26/5/1940. Sandy died 8/10/1957 and Pauline 23/9/1991, ashes and remains interred at Warrill Park Lawn Cemetery, Ipswich.
Florence died 1959 in Ipswich. Lorna married Thiam-Koen Lauw 16/6/1956 and had 4 children, Hong-Sian 11/4/1957, Tjoen-Liong 15/10/1958, Tjoen-San 16/2/1960 and Tjoen-Giok 6/11/1961.
Margaret married Ah-Soo Lim 1961 having 6 children, Su-Yin 25/3/1961, Su-Lien 8/11/1962, Soo-Kit 30/4/1966, Su-Suan 13/6/1968 and twin sons, Soo-Tiong & Soo-Ming born 27/12/1973 but dying a few days later.
John not only has more than 18 grand children but at least 5 great grandchildren at to-days date 10/09/2009. Research is underway to find Myrtle’s family, her eldest son died 2007 but a son and daughter reside in QLD.
