Story

These are a few anecdotes of my maternal great, great grandfathers, Jeremiah Sullivan,

Henry Knight and Moses Hibbs, and my paternal great grandfathers Henry Bowman and

Samuel Charles Roe.

Jeremiah Sullivan, born 1822 in Ballylewig, Ireland, and his wife, Mary, left for

Australia with their young daughter Maria in 1853. On an assisted passage, they arrived

in Australia aboard “Truro” in January 1854.

They had been booked on an earlier ship, but due to Mary’s pregnancy, they deferred and

Mary’s sister took their place.

Unfortunately that ship sank on the voyage and she drowned.
