Story

My parents, being born in England, came to Australia after the 1st World War. They met during the Depression, then went back to England to obtain work. My sister & I were born during the next war. We were able to return under the 10 pound scheme, in 1949.

We travelled by ship “S.S.MOOLTAN. At Columbo I contacted Smallpox, & spent 6 weeks in quarantine at Woodmans Point in Western Australia. Then on to Sydney with the sister ship. S.S. Maloya. We were met by both my parents’ families. A great reunion for both my parents.

We came to a small seaside resort, on the South Coast of NSW, where we lived with my Maternal Grandfather. I was teased unmercifully by the locals. Accent, clothes etc. So very different from my childhood in Northern England.
