Story
Thomas Bridgeman (b. ca 1807) and wife arrived at Port Adelaide on 17 October 1837 on the ship ‘Katherine Stewart Forbes’, the 11th ship to arrive at the settlement. His wife, presumed to be Sarah Hewitt, was born ca. 1814. Thomas disappeared from the census list in South.Australia ca. 1842 but reappeared in the first marriage record in Nelson New Zealand on 3rd April 1843, when he married Jane Eyles, an immigrant from the UK.
Thomas arrived in Sydney on board the schooner ‘Star of China’ on 18th June 1845 from Nelson, New Zealand. His wife Jane and daughter arrived aboard the schooner ‘Comet’ in Sydney on 9th October 1845. The family moved to the Clarence River district of NSW.
Thomas moved back to South Australia ca 1849, remarried there and subsequently, resettled in New Zealand, initially using his wife\’s name.
