Story
My wife Moira, and I left Scotland mainly to travel, and work in another country.
Moira and I were married 4 weeks before we left for Australia.
We were given an opportunity to come to Australia to work , so, with youthful exuberance, we took, what we saw, was the chance of a lifetime!.
We arrived in Sydney on board a QANTAS 707 after a rather long flight. We were jetlagged and still sad after leaving our family and friends back in Scotland.
It was August 1969, and bitterly cold..despite the initial shock, we were full of optimism for the coming adventure.
Moira was a teacher, and had a job already allocated to her in a school in Warners Bay , near Newcastle NSW.
I managed to get a job in sales in Newcastle.
We were very lucky to be able to rent a tiny flat in Warners Bay, and slowly make friends.
Some of the people we met back in 1969, are still our best friends today.
Our journey from 1969 to this very day has certainly been an adventure!
Australia has been very kind to us over the years and we certainly have no regrets about coming here.
Moira and I feel we have made a contribution to this wonderful country over the years.
We have been blessed with two beautiful ”Aussie” children, who in turn to date have provided us with a beautiful grand daughter.
Hope anyone reading this story, albeit a very short version of a very long journey, will be inspired enough to come to Australia…..
We are now both retired and happily living in Canberra …
